She only saw Beautiful
Someone is in the Sanctuary today, I overheard the humans say that she is looking for an Angel to adopt. I wonder if she might like me. I wonder if she will even look my way. I am not so special and I have some missing feathers. I don’t say many words and I don’t have any fancy dance steps. I am a very good girl though, and I have a lot of love to share with someone. Should I try to stand a little taller and fluff up my feathers a bit. Maybe she will notice me if I sit here looking as pretty as I can. There are so many other beautiful fully feathered birds here, why would she ever notice me.
Oh I see her coming, and she looks very nice. She has a special love in her eyes that I can see from here. Oh I hope she will stop and talk to me. I hope she will give me a scritch or two. Then she will see how gentle I can be. I hope she wont notice that I am not perfect. Maybe she wont mind that I can’t sing or do any tricks. I shouldn’t get my hopes up, but I sure would like to know her. Something about her just looks like a gentle human I would like to know. Maybe just maybe, she will be the one…. I have been waiting for such a long time now.
She is looking my way, she is smiling at me. Oh and she is coming closer, now is my chance to show her what a special Angel I can be! Could it be that she hasn’t noticed some of my feathers are missing? Maybe her eyesight isn’t so good, and she just can’t tell from across the room. She is still heading my way though, and getting very close. Oh could this be the one I have waited for? Maybe she wont mind that I am less than perfect? Will she be able to see past the missing feathers and know that my heart is still so full of Love and Hope?
She stepped right up next to me and smiled right at me! I could see tears gently filling up in her eyes and she said “Hello Beautiful”. Does this human see me differently? Has she not noticed that I am not as beautiful as some of the other birds here? She slowly reached to give my head a scratch. I closed my eyes and laid my head in her hand. I felt something so special, maybe this person will love me for who I am? Even if this only lasts for a minute, I want to remember it forever. This wonderful person is loving me right now. I feel the love inside of her as she caresses my head. Oh if only this moment could last forever.
She leaned in and whispered softly to me “would you maybe like to come home with me?” My heart jumped with joy, could it be that finally someone wants to love me? Could this beautiful human actually want to share her life with me? Will she change her mind, or notice another bird that is prettier than me? I trembled ever so slightly as I stepped up onto her arm, could this possibly be real? All of my fears quickly dissolved, as she and I walked away together. As I looked into her eyes, all I saw was love and I knew that she only saw me as Beautiful!
As we left the rescue that day, my heart was full of joy and sadness. While I had waited so long for someone to love me and finally found it, I also knew that there were so many others still waiting. For them I will pray every night that they too will find their special someone, who will see them as beautiful and a place in their heart forever!

Sweet Little Special Needs Quaker

The vet just finished her exam on the quaker that came from the HCAS seizure last week. This bird is super sweet, he likes to be held and given attention. He does not have splay leg, he does have deformed and undersized legs with very limited movement so will need a specialized set up, but is otherwise a good weight, good feather and healthy. He is being permanently adopted by a vet tech who fosters for us as she already has a conure with this same condition and knows how to handle any issues that may arise. He will be in great hands!!
Sweet little Green Cheek Conure

Isn’t he Precious? This very special baby Green Cheek conure is being hand fed by one of our fosters.
She came from a hoarding situation in the Hillsborough area.
Once she is fully weaned, she will be available for adoption.
Stevie is Famous!

Stevie the amazon is a famous radio star!! If you didn’t get a chance to listen to our on air interview at 88.5 fm from Feb 8, and you want to, go to the following link (http://www.wmnf.org/programs/350) and under “archives/select a date” put in 02-08-2012 and a recording of the show will pop up. It is 55 minutes long and begins with a song called Serpent, but after the song, the show goes into daily animal news and then FRPR VP Karen’s & Stevie’s interview about Florida Parrot Rescue and all that we do!

Goliath, finally in safe hands

Goliath’s foster mom and dad have sent us some wonderful photos! He is making remarkable progress since his wing amputation and with any lucky will only have one more follow up visit.

We at Florida Parrot Rescue are so thrilled with Goliath’s progress and so proud of Amanda and Ron for stepping up and helping this poor guy out.
This type of work could never be done without such dedicated and loving volunteers!
Seminole County Adopt A Thon

We have been lucky enough to have been invited to attend the Seminole County Animal Services 9th Annual Adopt-A-Thon this year.
It will be on Saturday March 10th from 10am to 3pm at the Seminole County Justice Center
101 Bush Blvd in Sanford.
We promise to have some of our wonderful volunteers, lots of adoptable birds and oodles of fun.

So many exciting adoptions

We are very excited to announce so many fabulous adoptions in the Month January and beginning of February. There is nothing we like more then sending parrots to their wonderful forever homes.
Cricket, the precious lovebird is just waiting for his forever family to pick him up
Xena was one popular gal when she was here but one lucky family gets to call her their own.
Casper, the unforgettable Goffins was adopted by her loving Foster mom and dad. She said she knew she had them hook, line and sinker!
Sundance says it is never to late to start over. He is 30 years young and starting an exciting new life with his wonderful new family.
Rico has landed in the arms of a wonderful new family.
Rudy has a really neat story. His new family fell in love with him from afar. They contacted Florida Parrot Rescue and asked if we adopted out of state. We said, yes under certain circumstances.
They fit the bill and were Rudy approved! He even got to go on a trip in a private jet! That is one LUCKY Green Wing Macaw!

Pookies Rescue Fest

Pookie’s RescueFest was held at Lake Lily Park in Maitland FL. Florida Parrot Rescue was invited to attend this year and had a wonderful time!
There were 30 rescues total and our table was hopping the entire time!
Holly was one of our lovely Meet and Greet Cockatoos and was a real hit. He loved on every man, woman and child while educating people about companion birds.
Holly is currently up for adoption so get those applications in!
And for thos who remember this lovely lady..NEEKO..was in attendance. She wanted to show off her new family and just hang out in the Florida sunshine.
We would also like to put out a special thank you to Bonnie Charpentier, Jenn Silwa and Mike Silwa for coming out and helping make this event such a success.
