“DITTO”
Congo African Grey Parrot
Adoption Fee $350 or $550 with cage
Ditto is a DNA sexed, 12 year old male Congo African Grey Parrot. He came into rescue after his owner became very sick with a severe medical issue. Ditto is currently on milk thistle as he does have slight hepatic disease from a previous improper diet – he also has low calcium, high cholesterol and high phosphorus – all issues that we will attempt to correct through diet under the supervision of an avian vet. Ditto has now been converted to a pelleted diet and is eating chop and trying new foods everyday! As you can see, Ditto came into rescue plucked from the neck down – most likely from a combination of incorrect diet, stress and not receiving the proper socialization. He is a bit of a nervous bird and is startled easily by loud noises. He does not like to step up from inside of his cage, he will run from you, but if he comes out on his own with the door left open, he will then beg to be picked up. While has never previously seen children or other birds or dogs, he is doing very well in his foster home where all of these stimulants are present. HOWEVER – Ditto DOES NOT like men – he will bite men to draw blood, but adult and children females, he is absolutely fine with. He communicates with the other birds from across the house through beeps and whistles (he will be moved into the bird room once cleared by the vet) and has no fear of dogs – their presence and noises do not startle him. He even steps up for the female children in the foster home (ages 7-13). He loves being scritched on the back of his neck and will push his head under your hand to be scritched, he would be content letting you scritch him all day, every day! His favorite toys involve leather and bird safe fabric that he can beak and he also really loves cash register tape. He has shown no aggression in his foster home other than not liking men, however, because he is timid and loud noises frighten him, he needs a gentle, patient hand to continue to bring him out of his shell. |

“SNUGGIE”
African Grey Parrot
Adoption Fee $350 or $550 with cage

Snuggie is a 12yr old African Grey. He was handled often by his male owner with whom he was very affectionate, however, was not socialized well with other people. He is naked on his chest and his back; however, he now seems to be regaining some of those feathers. He does not talk but he makes a variety of typical Grey noises; he beeps like a smoke detector and a car alarm, he makes a falling noise, and we are trying to teach him a crash sound to finish that one off! He will take food from you, but does not yet know how to step up. He likes to hang out on top of his cage, but if frightened, he will run to hide. We have been working on adjusting Snuggie’s diet to healthy choices that will help his feather and skin appearance, however, he will need a lot of time and patience to gain trust. Snuggie will need a special home that is willing to dedicate a lifetime to helping him heal and have a happy life!

“LOLA”
Eclectus Parrot
Adoption Fee $350 or $550 with cage
Coming into foster, Lola could only be held by her human mom. Any other family member or persons would be lunged at with wide open beak. Fostering Lola has been quite an experience as she is fun spirited and has the coolest noises and words that come out of her! However, truth be told, as Lola is approaching her 8th birthday, she will live for many, many more years. Eclectus prefer quiet homes and Lola will need consistent home life with not too much noise or commotion (no loud music or small children who have unpredictable movements and can be loud). If she feels too much is going on either physically or by noise, she will scream. Lola is adorable and loveable, however needs nurturing and physical bonding which requires an adoptee with this size bird experience. She will bite if she is not comfortable with you and needs time to adjust to new people. Lola does also display cage aggression and she will lunge at any movement around or near her cage. We are hoping that with more time and patience, these behaviors will cease. She does not like vacuums or vac sweepers – she will let you know it! Lola has quite an impressive vocabulary and set of phrases she mumbles.
We are working on getting Lola on a better diet and modification of her diet continues to be enforced with praise. She will eat almost anything provided to her. If you have the experience with these types of behavior and can provide a quiet, stable home, please consider Lola! She just needs the right person to show her patience and love, and she will give it in return!
UPDATE: Lola has made significant steps in trust. She readily steps up when asked, and is not nipping upon doing so. She is still reluctant to be touched. She thoroughly enjoys her shower time with the shower head on a fine mist. She loves showing off her wings! |

“NIKKI & ZACK”
Double Yellow Headed Amazon and Yellow Naped Amazon
Adoption Fee $650 or $850 with cages
This bonded pair of thirty-something Amazons are characters! Nikki is a Double Yellow Headed and Zachary is a Yellow Naped. These birds’ original owner (male) passed away many years ago and his parents have since provided a loving home. Nikki & Zack just love vocal human interaction and will talk and laugh your ears off! Each has a large vocabulary and an assortment of whistles and songs that will always keep you entertained. They have always been each others’ best friend and don’t require much maintenance other than their food , water and a loving home. Due to some balance issues, both are adjusting to new perches and also new foster home, so they are a little timid about leaving their room and going outdoors. Since they have not been handled much over the years, both are re- learning to step up, and prefer hanging out on top of their cages during the day. At times, Zack seems to want to interact more with a human, so he may know some tricks we haven’t seen yet. They will let you know when they awake, as they begin their chatter as soon as they see the morning light. They enjoy fruits, veggies, grains and nuts and happily eat pellets throughout the day. Not screamers, these two will chatter amongst themselves most of the time. Morning and late afternoon vocalizations are normal and may be a little loud for some. Not sure how these two would react to children or other pets, as they are older birds and are still somewhat unpredictable. If you are looking to have some company with a pair of spunky old timers with some good times to share with you, won’t you give Nikki and Zack a chance to find their forever home? |

“ZOEY”
Bare Eyed Cockatoo Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $350 or $550 with cage
Hi there- my name is Zoey, I am a male Bare-eyed cockatoo. I am a cute, cunning little fellow. My Foster Mom is working with me to improve my diet. I love chop but am having a hard time finding a pellet that I will eat, I prefer junk so she is trying to get me to eat the good stuff. I hadn’t been handled much from my previous owner, maybe its because I bite. I am stick trained and don’t mind being moved to my playstand via this method. I do need a very patient person to work with me to learn trust and help me learn to behave better, I am not a family bird yet, but my foster Mom will continue to work with me. I do talk and have a cute squeaky voice. I need an experienced, patient cockatoo person to help me become the best pet ever. Are you up for a challenge? If so, contact FPR and you can adopt me.

“ZEUS & SAM”
Orange Winged Amazon and Quaker Parrot
Adoption Fee $400 or $550 with cage
Say hello to Zeus the Orange Wing Amazon and his buddy Sam, the Quaker Parrot! Sam and Zeus are bonded and will need to be adopted together. They came out of an emergency situation with several other birds from the same home. The previous owner claimed that Zeus is about 100 years old and that Sam is about 40, however, our veterinarian feels that is very inaccurate and it is more likely that Zeus is about 40 and Sam about 15-20. Zeus has had it very rough. His original owner (not the previous owner) abused him badly and threw him several times, breaking his legs, his wing and damaging an eye to the point of it being lost . Because of these previous old injuries, he moves very slowly and obviously only has one eye. He also does not step up at this time (may be a result not only from being abused previously, but from some pain due to these old injuries). Zeus is also bald on the very top of his head. Despite all that he has been through, he is a very quiet bird who makes pleasant chirping noises and seems very content living in a home with his buddy and with humans. He likes to be bathed and loves his new diet of pellets with lots of veggies and fruits and nuts, he particularly loves bananas! Sam the quaker has a little bit of cage aggression, but it is easy to work around and once away from the cage, he is very easy to handle. Sam is fully feathered and also loves being bathed and is thrilled with his new diet! He is also a pretty quiet bird as well. These two have come a long way since coming to us and just need a nice quiet home where they can retire to live out the rest of their lives where they can learn to trust again, and be given lots of love and great food!

“ZIGGY aka ZIGGURAT and RICKIE”
Timneh African Grey Parrot and Blue Front Amazon
*BONDED – Must be adopted together*
Adoption Fee $700 or $1100 with cages
These two girls are very funny! Ziggy talks up a storm when she doesn’t think you’re listening. I t sounds like she’s scolding someone and then you’ll hear ‘C’mon”, “here”, “pretty girl”, “whatcha doin’”, “hi Ziggy”, “Who’s your daddy” and a couple of other words very clearly. Morning and evening are her best talking times. She and Rickie like to visit on Rickie’s cage. Rickie is more dependent on Ziggy than the other way around. Rickie still doesn’t like to step up when she’s on her cage but is getting very good at whistling and dancing. Loves to whistle part of “row, row, row your boat’ and dances in a circle when her foster mom bobs her head and whistles. She also likes to talk and is starting to say “hello” and “careful” – hard to understand but she’ll repeat these words several times if you say them back to her. They have both been converted over to a pellet diet and can’t get to their food fast enough in the morning. Ziggy bounces back and forth from foot to foot and Rickie will pull the door of her cage shut to maneuver her way to her food. Very funny! They love almonds, grapes and sometimes chop, as well as scrambled eggs!
ZIGGY: Well, to start with, I’m a happy, social girl – now that I’ve settled in to my foster home and know the routine, I love to spend time helping make our food and just generally hanging with my foster mom. I’m a little cage aggressive, but getting better every day. My foster mom hears “Ziggy – who’s your daddy?” and laughs a lot so she must be amused. I’ve progressed from a seed diet to partial pellets and partial nutriberries. I love pistachio nuts and fruit (grapes, mostly) and my foster Mom is introducingme to fresh vegatbles too. I also love my baths with warm misting water. I don’t particularly like being scratched but am learning the “touch” language – happy voice with a “touch” sound. I’m a happy girl who whistles and talks. I’m probably about 12 years old and a Timneh African Grey.
RICKIE: I’m a very sweet girl – 12 years young and a pretty blue-fronted amazon. I’m very shy – it’s taken my foster mom a while to be able to be near me so I don’t scramble on to the top of my cage. She likes to talk with me and whistle and I’m learning “Row, row, row your boat” and “Frere Jacques”. I can’t whistle them all yet but I’m working on it. I’m pretty quiet although I do like to talk to myself. I’m still on a seed diet but have graduated to a good one (and I am sure my Mom will keep hounding me about trying pellets) and my foster mom is going to make some chop for me to try. I’m a very picky eater but if the chop is good, I’ll eat it. I’m very quiet – I talk to myself a lot – but don’t scream or carry one. If you have the patience and love for a girl like me and my best friend Ziggy, please think about adopting us!

“DUSTER”
Umbrella Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 with cage
Ello! My Name is Duster and I am an 88 year old Umbrella Cockatoo. I originally came from Australia and I have done some serious flying – ok well, I was flying in a plane. Coming to the United States I started out on the California coast taking up residency at Sea world where I became an Ambassador for Cockatoos, educating people about my breed. I eventually moved to the sunshine state where I was living in Weeki Wachee with the mermaids, wow were those sheilas beautiful! I eventually ended up in the Ocala area and then moved to St Petersburg where I currently reside with my my foster mom and a goofy conure. I love to hang outside and enjoy the warm Florida sunshine. My foster mom makes me all kinds of cool toys from wood and other things that I can tear up with my beak to keep me busy - she calls me Duster Bunny, but I have heard her refer to me as a can opener with feathers. I like to chew up wood, and newspaper toilet paper rolls, and she makes me these really cool toys with dried corn husks with treats of almonds in them – they are a lot of fun to tear up. I love fruits and veggies, as well as eating my pellet mix with some seed (my foster Mom is trying to get my off seed). I am looking for my forever home and while I may be an older bloke, I still have lots of love to give you! |

“SONNY”
YELLOW NAPE AMAZON
Adoption Fee $350 or $550 with cage
My name is Sonny, I’m a 27yr old Yellow Naped Amazon. I had a damaged air sac for a really long time before I came to FPR (more than 8 years!) and I had surgery to repair the damage, but it looks as though the damage had been there too long, so I now will have this for the rest of my life, but It doesn’t bother me. It inflates sometimes–but goes down on it’s own, Doc said -I’m fine just the way I am!—-I do however prefer men—–and I LOVE to talk-I say “hi honey”, “whatcha doing”, “I love youuuuuu”and lots of other stuff–I love the knock -on-the-door-sound and then yelling “COME IN”-If your talking I am too!-and I keep up a conversation with the best of them–I have this crazy affinity for BELLS (I like to ring them)I am very vocal, love to talk and I have the best laugh you’ve every heard! I love to hang out with you outside of my cage as much as possible,I am not needy-unless of course your eating something– I am proficient at eating, AND talking (see I am talented AND beautiful), but I REALLY REALLY prefer men and would do well in a home that has at least one man that will socialize with me a lot!! I always wanna know whatcha doin? So if you can look over my slight imperfection, and would like a good companion, I think we could live happily ever after!

“PETER”
Red Lored Amazon
Adoption Fee $350 or $550 with cage
Hello F.P.R friends, family and visitors. My name is Peter and I am a Red Lored amazon. I can speak very well… I say “ hello”, “Peter”,“Peter good boy”, “Peter pretty bird”, “pretty bird”, “ Yo”, and whistle different tunes. I whistle for your attention, but if you don’t respond, I will make my birdie noises. I also make very interesting, but funny sounds that will keep you entertained. I have been enjoying my new toys, ladder and perches. I have my own room and love to check out what’s in it. I am a very curious bird, so I look like I’m spying to make sure I don’t miss anything. I really enjoy the company of people, human interaction, cartoons and music. I love when people talk to me in a baby voice, it just tickles me all over and I start entertaining the crowd… and trust me I can entertain you for a long time! When the other birds come to my room I show off to let them know I want to play, but they just stare at me and watch me play with all my toys. When I hear the other birds talking I try to keep up by mocking or whistle. My annual check-up went very well – I’ve been changed from seeds to a pellet diet and took to the change very well, and I eat fruits and vegetables throughout the day. I love being hand-fed different nuts and especially love almonds! If my foster mom would let me eat nuts all day…I would…I go coocoo for nuts:) I like watching what’s happening outside my window and when the sun starts going down and I’m still out of my cage, I will put myself in the cage and close the door for bedtime. I’m a joy to be around, but I don’t like people holding me ( I cry and try to fly away… unless you have a nut for me). With time and the right person, I will learn to relax when people want to hold me. However, I am in the process of being stick trained. I get along with women, men, children and other birds. So if you have time, patience and want a forever companion, a bundle of entertainment and happiness, come check me out!!!

“CHIKU”
AFRICAN GREY PARROT
Adoption Fee $350 or $550 with cage
Hello Everyone. My name is Chiku and I am 9 years young! I am extremely intelligent, inquisitive, but a little on guard and apprehensive at times to anything new introduced to me. My foster mom loves me and I step up for her and eat from her hand, but I don’t let her touch me yet. I guess that’s where the apprehensive/inquisitive part takes over. I believe in time spent and in the development of trust, but I have a lot years ahead of me to build that trust with my special new family in my Forever home. I am not at all mean, but will let you know that when my feathers are fluffed and head down, to please leave me alone. Otherwise I will follow your commands of stepping up and will take food that I like from your hand. I have an extensive vocabulary; I will talk in 2conversations at the same time, as if I were 2 people talking at once on the phone. I put words in context at times and I will surprise you, when I say “where you going” as you walk out the door and “what are you doing”, when your busy cleaning up after me. I also “ask if everything is ok..” I surprise my foster mom and make her laugh and she directly answers me. She is always teaching me words and someday I know I will surprise when I say to her “the red apple is good.” I do respond with a yum though! I am somewhat of a picky eater, but my foster mom gives me fresh fruits and veggie twice a day, along with my mix of different pellets. My special treats are cashews, but I only get those when I am really good and she wants me to go back in the cage. I do want you to know also that I have been very close to a special lady I had in my past life and may not take well to men, but you never know. I am very young and that could always change. Please come and say hi and see if were a match. I am looking for a forever home to love me unconditionally. Love, Chiku. |

“CHARLIE”
Sulfur Crested Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $350 or $550 with cage
Charlie is a sulfur crested cockatoo. He has always been called a “he” but his sex is unknown as is his species. He is either a small medium sulfur crested or a hybrid of a lesser sulfur and a medium. Life hasn’t always been easy for Charlie. In the first home we are aware of he was attacked by a pair of macaws. They destroyed his upper mandible. It has partially grown back, but his sinuses are still exposed and always will be. It hasn’t inhibited him though from being active or from eating. He may not be able to crack a walnut, but he readily eats most anything else without assistance. His beak does however require trimming every four weeks in order to keep from growing too long. If this isn’t done it makes eating difficult and will cause it to become thin and brittle as well. Charlie’s next home was with a well meaning person who took in more birds than she could handle. Compounded by the owner’s poor health he was soon living in unhealthy conditions. The home was crowded and the air toxic.
Now Charlie is living in foster care and having a blast. He loves to play with toys that he can stash in his boxes, and will actually unscrew toys hung from the top of the cage to add to his stash. He loves his foster mom. His foster dad? Well, not so much. Other birds? Again, not so much. Actually poor Charlie is rather anti social and seems to strongly bond to one person and one person only. He’s extremely smart and is an escape artist. Charlie may not be perfect in appearance or behavior, but if you are looking for a challenge and are female he is worth the effort. To the one he chooses he is very loving and sweet.

“ROXANNE”
Umbrella Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage
Roxanne is a 19 year old female Umbrella Cockatoo. She was raised and lived with the same person until a family crisis forced her owner to give her up. She has begun plucking her chest in addition to being in the beginning stages of self mutilation. While she is a very gentle and loving bird with the person she chooses, she has a lack of trust of others and can be possessive of her chosen person. This lack of trust manifests itself into fear and the possessiveness has resulted in biting behavior. Fortunately, her self mutilation behavior is already starting to subside and soon her behavioral rehabilitation can begin in earnest. She will need a lot of attention and care to keep her healthy for a very long time to come as this species can live up to 75 to 80 years! She will need an experienced owner with lots of avian knowledge!

“TICKLE BIRD”
Yellow-Naped Amazon
Adoption Fee $350 or $550 With Cage
Tickle bird is a jumbo Yellow-Naped Amazon. She is about 15 years old. She came from a family that raised her from a baby. She seems to have a dual personality and does not like women. Whenever she is upset or wants attention, she starts screaming out the names ALAN, or ROBERT, or JAMES and also HELP and OUCH. These behaviors are easily dealt with by speaking to her quietly or distracting her with music or games such as step up or what I call punch ball (a ping pong ball that I suspend for her to punch at.) She can sometimes be a bit hand shy and will give a good little bite when approached too quickly. Foster mom has been attempting to change the aggressive behavior with soothing words, giving favorite treats and being the one to change out food and water. This seems to be working as she is a bit less aggressive towards her. But will still try to chase after her and bite her feet when out. She is a very fast runner! The other side of her is a soft speaking, playful and curious little girl. Her vocalizations are mostly mono syllable like GOOD, WATER, FOOD, DOG, WHATEVER, OK and ALRIGHT. She also seems to have endless phone conversations, sometimes lasting up to 15 minutes. And when the phone rings will say HELLO. One of her favorite games to pull her cage cover sheet inside of her cage and wrap herself up in it like a cocoon then jump out and squawk. She loves to imitate Stevie Wonder while dancing to music and will sometimes comment on what is going on the TV by saying OOAHH or OOOOO or ALRIGHT. She does not seem to be bothered at all by the presence of our dog or cat and does not seem interested in other birds. She does come with a large (2’x3’x4’) cage that cannot be broken down.

“PEE WEE”
Congo African Grey
Adoption Fee $350 Or $550 With Cage
Pee Wee is an 8 year old Congo African Grey Parrot. He came into rescue as a biter and plucker – overall a very scared bird. He is now starting to settle in and is proving to be a very talented talker, learning new sounds and words quickly. He is curious and is becoming more confident in his new surroundings. Pee Wee has a great appetite for his new mixed pellet diet and especially his almonds, fresh fruit and veggies. He was given a clean bill of health by the vet and is learning to be stick trained and is slowly learning to trust his foster mom. He has some ways to go but is definitely coming around and will make a wonderful companion for a kind and patient family!

“SNOWY”
Umbrella Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage
Snowy is 36 years old and came into the rescue from a loving home of 25 years. His owners felt they could no longer provide the attention he needs and made the very difficult decision to have him re-homed. Snowy is a very sweet and loving Cockatoo, he loves to snuggle and give kisses. He is a little hesitant at first but with a little nudging will step up for just about anyone, once you pick him up he is a Cuddle Bug! He does get a little jealous of others when his chosen person is around though (he may bite if someone gets too close to him and his chosen person). Snowy makes the sweetest coos and occasionally will laugh with the family, he is very vocal and will carry on his own funny little conversations…. in his very own language! Like most U2′s, he will scream if he feels that he is not getting enough attention. Snowy does pluck his abdominal/chest area but his feathers do still grow back as the follicles are not destroyed. We have not seen him pluck since he came into the foster home, so hopefully they will grow back. He enjoys being outside sitting on the ‘front porch swing’. Snowy loves his greens and currently eats Roudybush pellets with fresh fruits and vegetables with some nuts. Please remember that this species of bird can live to be 80 years or older and needs a lot of attention on a daily basis. Snowy will make a great addition to your family and still has many years left to devote to you!!!

“JACOB”
Umbrella Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage
Jacob is a Special Needs Bird, and will only be adopted out under very special circumstances.
Jacob is a sweet and friendly Umbrella Cockatoo. He loves attention and will dance and sing with you or for you! He can also say his name in a variety of voices and loves music and playing with his wooden toys. He does not like men however and will bite them. Jacob is fully feathered and has a great appetite; he is being converted from a seed diet to a diet consisting of a variety of pellets, fresh fruits, veggies and nuts. Jacob has had surgery three times, and is a very special needs bird. He will not be adopted out to just anyone as a result. He does require daily cleaning of his cloaca due to the prolapsed surgeries he has undergone, which he tolerates fairly well. Jacob is a mild screamer and will need more work with that behavior. He will require an extremely experienced Cockatoo handler.

“OLIVER aka OLLIE”
Red Lored Amazon
Adoption Fee $350 Or $550 With Cage
My name is Oliver, Ollie is my nick name. I’m around 33 years young, been an Red Lored Amazon as long as I can remember even though the vet says maybe I have a little bit of Lilac mixed in there somewhere. I was a beach bird and spent most of my time outside even though I have no problem living indoors. I purr like a cat when the vacuum is running and bark like a dog just because I can! I was eating mostly seeds but I’m getting a little more variety here at my new place, pellets with some veggies to compliment my seeds. I’m definitely “eye candy” and I think I like my foster dad better than I like my new mom. I tend to have some cage aggression especially towards her. I very much enjoy sitting on dad’s shoulder while he’s on Facebook or while he’s walking around the house. I also enjoy sitting high atop my perch observing everything while looking sooooo good! I’ll probably need an experienced bird person to be my forever guardian so if you want a beautiful bird with a little bit of attitude I’m the one!

“ERIN”
Umbrella Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage
Erin is a ten year old female umbrella cockatoo. She was raised by her previous owner and until the owners health declined that was the only home she knew. She has settled into her foster family’s home remarkably well and is very sweet to women. She is a little fearful of men though and can be protective of her foster mom.
She is animated and chatty, but like all cockatoos she has her moments of being loud. However she is not a problem screamer. She is a first class cuddle bug with her chosen human and will certainly give her new family many years of love, laughter and joy!
