Goliath is a beautiful 13 year old Blue & Gold Macaw. Goliath came into rescue on 12-31-2011 and when he was picked up it was found he immediately needed to go to the veterinarian. Goliath had a severe infection in his wing that reached all the way to the bone and was very painful for him. The infection had been in the wing for over a year and the vet decided that the wing had to be amputated immediately to save Goliath. Fortunately, Florida Parrot Rescue has a WONDERFUL support group in the community and over a period of 24 hours, raised enough money to pay for the majority of Goliath’s surgery, so the following Tuesday, Dr. Rhoda Stevenson performed the procedure and Goliath did very well! While he only has one wing right now and is still learning how to balance properly, he is a wonderful bird (and even before and after the amputation and even during his treatments, he was just as wonderful). He loves men and women equally and is always up for a good head scratch. He does not mind being around other animals, including dogs and even a companion pig! He enjoys people food, but is currently being converted to a healthier diet of pellets with fresh fruits and vegetables and nuts as treats. He does speak some and can say “ok”, “up”, “ok bye” and “hello” and a few other things we have yet to make out. Goliath is still on medical hold as he has one more follow up visit, but he will be available for adoption soon and looking for his forever home!

Rico Blue & Gold Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot RescueRico Blue & Gold Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot RescueRico Blue & Gold Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“RICO”
Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 with Cage

Rico is a gorgeous Blue and Gold Macaw in full feather who is estimated to be approximately 7 years old. Rico’s background is unknown to FPR, but since coming into foster care he has exhibited no negative behaviors or bad habits. He really is a blank slate, waiting for that special person who will work with him to earn his trust and teach him the wonderful world of human – parrot companionship

Rico demonstrates an active interest and willingness to interact with his foster family but is still very unsure of himself. He enjoys attention and interaction with his foster family and is quite the flirt.

He needs someone willing to continue his training to step-up readily on a hand or stick. Fortunately, Rico is highly motivated by treats and will readily accept food from your hands. He is being introduced to a variety of new fruits and veggies and will usually try something if I eat it first. He has proven himself to be a “seed junkie” if permitted, so these are normally reserved for rewards. He loves all whole nuts as a treat making short work of almonds, macadamia nuts, brazil nuts, pecans and walnuts.

Rico says “hello,” and “woof.” So far he has not proven himself to be a “screamer,” however this could potentially change if his needs are not meet and that behavior is inadvertently reinforced.

Rico will only be considered to a home with an experienced parrot person who demonstrates an understanding of parrot behavior and positive reinforcement teaching techniques. His new family should also consider that Rico will live for another 70+ years and arrangements should be made by his new family for his care in the event they can no longer care for him. Care for a parrot of this size requires a commitment to providing the very best of nutrition, physical and mental enrichment, and human interaction which is time consuming and can be expensive.

“CHAMP”
Moluccan Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 with Cage

Champ is a real character and has never met a person he did not like. He has a wonderful disposition and is a real “velcro” bird. Champ would hang out with you all day long if you let him, he just needs time to get used to you and any people need to go very slow with him. He did not come to us from an ideal situation and he has some insecurities because of that. He is however a typical Cockatoo and can be LOUD when he is feeling ignored, but for the most part, he is a fairly quiet bird, for a cockatoo anyway! As you may have noticed, Champ does not have tail feathers and he will not grow any (we call him the buttless wonder!). He had a wound in that area which has long since healed but destroyed all follicles, however, all the plumbing works just fine! Champ has been converted to a healthy diet of pellets, fresh vegetables and fruit. He enjoys nuts as treats. He will try anything you offer. He is especially fond of sweet potatoes.

Champ WILL NOT do well in a home with other cockatoos, he does like being around other birds, but NOT other cockatoos.  He also does not like to be around other birds that are very loud. He is fine with other animals though, such as dogs.  He is fine with men or women, but he does prefer men.

Champ is under the age of 10 (best guess) and although he may not be the prettiest bird, he sure does have character and will make a great companion for the right family! Everyone who meets Champ falls in love with his sweet personality.

“KAHN”
Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 with cage

Kahn is a 19 year old Blue and Gold Macaw. He loves to be the “class clown” and will make you laugh and giggle with delight. He will need extra love and attention the 1st couple of months to get him adapted to you and your household. He readily steps up to a confident person, but it appears that he likes females better than males. He loves to play in the bath tub and his favorite movie seems to be “Cars”. Kahn is also a foot biter and chaser, so if you plan to let him walk around your home on the floor, wear boots, lol!  He does also occassioanlly scream or screech for attention and will end that with a firm “stop it”, so this vocalizing is an issue we are working on. He eats a mix of zupreem food varieties with fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts and his favorite treat is apples, he will say “Apple Mmmm”. Kahn prefers a quiet household, he can be vocal if there is a lot of noise around him.

He really enjoys attention and loves having his head scratched, but feels the need to make you earn that privilege. He is not a picky eater, and loves to talk to himself. Corona is anxious for his forever home. If you have time, patience, and an abundance of love, then Corona would love to meet you.

Baby is a 9 year old, DNA tested female who’s birthday is 5/31/02. Baby is a really sweet, but very shy bird. She would never hurt you, but she likes to run away from you until she trusts you. She has plucked some in the past, but the vet says that she should get all her feathers back once all of her needs are met (diet, socialization, play time, etc..). The previous owner said she just started plucking and they feel it is due to the extreme changes in the home. Our vet also said that her plucking issues are not health related, but are due to stress. She is gets along well with other birds and would do well in a home with someone who is home full time or if they only worked part time.

This is a great bird and will make a family really happy. Will this be your family?

“KONA”
Blue & Gold Macaw
*SPECIAL NEEDS*
Adoption fee $400 or $650 With Cage

Kona is a 2 year old Macaw who is special needs, he has what is called splay leg. He looks like he is doing the splits and can not put his legs down. He can not stand, walk or perch, but don’t tell Kona he can’t do these things because he has never been able to do them, so he doesn’t miss them! But he can climb, he is really good a climber! He does fall sometimes, but that is getting to be rare and his cage just needs to be kept in a special way to accomodate that. He has never flown and we don’t believe he can, but we do keep his wings clipped just in case he were to surprise us and himself. We keep a large pillow on the bottom of his cage and he likes to sleep on his pillow at night. Kona loves toys. He will take a month or so before he will play with new toys, but then he loves them. His favorite type of toys are bells and he loves to make noise by ringing them! When you feed him you have to remember he can’t hold the food with his foot, so you will want to make sure fruit and veggies are cut in to small bite size pieces and you crack nuts for him. We bathe him in a couple inches of water in the bath tub, he doesn’t like it, but it has to be done a few times a week (as with all birds!). Kona is a sweet bird. He will need someone who has time to spend with him. He is friendly with you once he gets to know you (typical Macaw!). I like to take him from his cage and set him on my lap. He likes to lay against my chest and give kisses. He does say a few words…. “Mom”, “Hello”, “What”, “Truuuuuuuck” (our dogs name) and laughs. This a wonderful bird, won’t you it find in your heart to give him a forever home where his special needs will be celebrated and appreciated?

“Ron Jon”
Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 With Cage

 This bird has been adopted

Hi everyone. My name is RonJon and I’m a 19 year old smaller B&G Macaw girl. My previous family is moving overseas and could not take me with them, so, here I am looking for a new family to share my love with. I am a good girl. I watch my girlish figure by being on a pellet diet, but I do love my peanuts, grapes, bananas and other goodies as snacks. I can say “Hello”, “Bye Bye”, “Stop”, and “Ron.” I like my both my foster Mom and Dad equally. I don’t mind cats, other birds, and small dogs but large dogs scare me. When I was born, I had a disjointed left foot. That issue has been fixed and you would not be able to tell that anything was wrong as I can get around pretty well. Once in a while I need a little bit of help getting a step up, but other than that, I am as healthy as any bird. One of my favorite activities is taking a bath. I splash around and groom myself till I look just perfect. Once I get to know you, I love sitting in your lap and getting head scratches, under wing rubs and back massages. As I am a macaw, I let you know that I want your attention by making my distinctive call, but other than that, I am a pretty quiet girl. I love my playground and will spend lots of time on it just observing my surroundings. My cage is my domain and I can get a little fussy when I’m in there, but don’t fret, I’m a very social macaw and will come out to play. Well, enough about me, tell me about your family! When can I come home with you?

“BANDIT”
Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 With Cage

Bandit is a gentle and playful 30 year old macaw. Although 30 sounds old, you can expect this loving big bird to spend many great years as your loving companion. She is healthy and very full of life. She does not seem to have a preference of men or women, but she loves to hang out with other macaws and would prefer a home with a macaw friend. Some of her most favorite things are destroying boxes and eating. She has been converted to a healthy diet of pellets with fresh fruits and veggies and some nuts. She does not mind other animals like dogs and also loves to dance! Bandit particularly enjoys talking to the dogs and will even yell “Out” at them in order to get a sample of their food. She loves most all people foods and is a shameless beggar for a taste off whatever is on your plate. Bandit is an exceptional bird and is waiting to be someone’s best friend!

Tiki Moluccan Cockatoo available for adoption Florida Parrot RescueTiki Moluccan Cockatoo available for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“TIKI” Moluccan Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

Tiki is a majestic and regal Moluccan Cockatoo (also known as a Salmon Crested cockatoo) who is approximately 9 years old. It is presumed that he is a male but he has not been DNA tested for gender. He sports a brilliant flamingo colored crest. Moluccans are the largest of the white cockatoos. They hail from Indonesia and they are a threatened species.

Our young man is shy at first but will stand still indefinitely for head scratches and doesn’t appear to be cage aggressive. Tiki will hiss constantly at first but it is due to fear. The good news is that he overcomes it after getting to know you. He is a very affectionate little (big) guy. He loves to go outside and play. He enjoys being in the room with you and riding around on your should (caution – allowing a bird to ride on your shoulder is not always recommended and should only be considered after spending enough time with the bird and forming an evaluation). He likes to shred wood and piñatas. He likes to eat a little bit of everything, but he has to be in the mood. Tiki does not talk but he does a pretty good boat horn and other assorted sounds that make me laugh.

Although Moluccans are known to have one of the loudest parrot calls Tiki doesn’t sound off frequently. He usually does some morning calls and some bedtime calls at around 7pm. Moluccans in general are very intelligent and should be nurtured by providing plenty of mental stimuli and training; owning this type of bird requires a special person with a lot of time and attention to give. Moluccans are the most sensitive of the cockatoos. They also require the largest cages of all the parrots. Tiki’s cage is 40” X 40” X 72”. He also needs a play stand when out of his cage.
Tiki does best in a home where there is at least one other cockatoo to talk to. He did not do well when there were no other cockatoos.

Tiki is extremely affectionate and very easy to handle. He’s got his quirks i.e. he prefers to step onto a perch and then on to your arm where he expects to be cuddled to pieces and showered with kisses. He is not aggressive and can be handled by more than one caretaker. Tiki has plucked some of his feathers around the tips of his wings and his thighs. Plucking is very common for this species but Tiki still has a beautiful feather presentation (see picture) and he currently does not pluck. His wing tips and most of his belly feathers have grown back. Tiki can live to be about 60-80 years old and therefore has a life time of love to give to you!

“KAIRI” Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

Kairi is a young female Blue and Gold Macaw. She loves to talk, she says “hello, cracker, pretty bird and good girl”. Kairi is very affectionate and will step up for anyone, but she LOVES men the most.  Kairi steps up, takes treats by hand and for my husband will lay on her back on his lap. Kairi came to us with her chest feathers plucked but already has yellow feathers returning. Kairi enjoys a diet of a variety of fruits, veggies, and nuts with a foundation of pellets and rice with beans. Kairi’s trust continues to grow daily but she will require an adoptive family with bird experience to continue to bring out the best in her. She will tolerate being around children, but remember that parrots should never be left alone with kids or handling by them without constant supervision.

Bubbles Blue and Macaw for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“CUERVO aka BUBBLES” Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

Cuervo is a 10 year old Blue and Gold Macaw, but I like to call her Bubbles because guess what, she’s a girl! Bubbles is a very friendly bird and really easy to handle. As you can see, she doesn’t like to wear her sweater, but bald is beautiful baby! Most of Bubbles’ feathers will most likely not grow back as it appears she has done damage to the feather follicles, but we are working on making her diet a more nutritious one with pellets, a huge variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and plenty of nuts. Bubbles is a pig! She LOVES to eat and will munch on just about anything you put in front of her. She hasn’t talked yet and so far is not a very loud bird, but I suspect she has the ability to talk, she just hasn’t yet.

She is a wonderful bird and will make a great lifelong companion!

Belle Scarlet Macaw for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“BELLE O’HARA” Scarlet Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 With Cage

Adoption Pending on this birds

Belle O’Hara is a 15 year-old female Scarlet Macaw. She is very curious about everything going on around her. Before coming into rescue she had been biting off some of her long wing feathers, so when she came to her foster home she was given plenty of fun toys to play with and the right types of food to eat and she is now starting to let her feathers grow back. Belle has now been fully transitioned to a diet of pellets, fresh fruit and vegetables, and occasional nuts for treats. She is very easy to please and she will try any new food you give her., she loves to eat! She enjoys baths outside on sunny days as well and she will dance around spreading her wings as you spray her. She is not a loud parrot and she can talk some. Belle would do best with an experienced Macaw owner with patience who is willing to spend a lot of time with her and treat her like the queen she was born to be!

Kiki Blue and Gold Macaw for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“KIKI” Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

Hello all – Kiki here! I am a very nice, handsome fellow – I know many ways to say hello and my name, have several different laughs and am learning some Spanish (hola) and French (bonjour). I love to talk to you and I love to eat – what macaw doesn’t? When I first got here, I was eating a seed diet – now I have pellets, fruit, veggies, nuts and sometimes a bit of yogurt or scrambled egg. As you can see, I don’t have all my feathers. Some of them have started to grow back in – the ones on my chest are just lovely. I’m about 25 years old and still have many good years ahead of me. Head scratching is one of my favorite things! I get a little anxious out of my cage but I do like to explore, so once I can wander around a bit, I’m good to go! I’m not a screamer and do love to interact with you once I’ve made your acquaintance. I’ve been working on step up and am good at taking food from your hand. I’ve a lovely wooden toy that I’ve been redesigning (it needed some work) and a couple of new perches. If you think I could be your forever bird, I would really love a LARGE cage with toys and perches, time with you and also some time outside in the sun. I’ve been thinking I should try a harness, then I could go for walks and bike rides and all sorts of other fun adventures, but I’ll think abut that some more while you decide if we could be forever friends!
