Goliath is a beautiful 13 year old Blue & Gold Macaw. Goliath came into rescue on 12-31-2011 and when he was picked up it was found he immediately needed to go to the veterinarian. Goliath had a severe infection in his wing that reached all the way to the bone and was very painful for him. The infection had been in the wing for over a year and the vet decided that the wing had to be amputated immediately to save Goliath. Fortunately, Florida Parrot Rescue has a WONDERFUL support group in the community and over a period of 24 hours, raised enough money to pay for the majority of Goliath’s surgery, so the following Tuesday, Dr. Rhoda Stevenson performed the procedure and Goliath did very well! While he only has one wing right now and is still learning how to balance properly, he is a wonderful bird (and even before and after the amputation and even during his treatments, he was just as wonderful). He loves men and women equally and is always up for a good head scratch. He does not mind being around other animals, including dogs and even a companion pig! He enjoys people food, but is currently being converted to a healthier diet of pellets with fresh fruits and vegetables and nuts as treats. He does speak some and can say “ok”, “up”, “ok bye” and “hello” and a few other things we have yet to make out. Goliath is still on medical hold as he has one more follow up visit, but he will be available for adoption soon and looking for his forever home!

Rico Blue & Gold Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot RescueRico Blue & Gold Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot RescueRico Blue & Gold Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“RICO”
Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 with Cage

Rico is a gorgeous Blue and Gold Macaw in full feather who is estimated to be approximately 7 years old. Rico’s background is unknown to FPR, but since coming into foster care he has exhibited no negative behaviors or bad habits. He really is a blank slate, waiting for that special person who will work with him to earn his trust and teach him the wonderful world of human – parrot companionship

Rico demonstrates an active interest and willingness to interact with his foster family but is still very unsure of himself. He enjoys attention and interaction with his foster family and is quite the flirt.

He needs someone willing to continue his training to step-up readily on a hand or stick. Fortunately, Rico is highly motivated by treats and will readily accept food from your hands. He is being introduced to a variety of new fruits and veggies and will usually try something if I eat it first. He has proven himself to be a “seed junkie” if permitted, so these are normally reserved for rewards. He loves all whole nuts as a treat making short work of almonds, macadamia nuts, brazil nuts, pecans and walnuts.

Rico says “hello,” and “woof.” So far he has not proven himself to be a “screamer,” however this could potentially change if his needs are not meet and that behavior is inadvertently reinforced.

Rico will only be considered to a home with an experienced parrot person who demonstrates an understanding of parrot behavior and positive reinforcement teaching techniques. His new family should also consider that Rico will live for another 70+ years and arrangements should be made by his new family for his care in the event they can no longer care for him. Care for a parrot of this size requires a commitment to providing the very best of nutrition, physical and mental enrichment, and human interaction which is time consuming and can be expensive.

Champ Moluccan cockatoo for adoption Florida Parrot RescueChamp Moluccan Cockatoo available for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“CHAMP”
Moluccan Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 with Cage

Champ is a real character and has never met a person he did not like. He has a wonderful disposition and is a real “velcro” bird. Champ would hang out with you all day long if you let him. He is however a typical Cockatoo and can be LOUD when he is feeling ignored. As you may have noticed, Champ does not have tail feathers and he will not grow any (we call him the buttless wonder!). He had a wound in that area which has long since healed but destroyed all follicles, however, all the plumbing works just fine! Champ has been converted to a healthy diet of pellets, fresh vegetables and fruit. He enjoys nuts as treats. He will try anything you offer. He is especially fond of sweet potatoes.

Champ is under the age of 10 (best guess) and although he may not be the prettiest bird, he sure does have character and will make a great companion for the right family! Everyone who meets Champ falls in love with his sweet personality.

Kahn Blue & Gold Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot RescueKahn Blue & Gold macaw availabe for adoption Florida Parrot RescueKahn Blue & Gold Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“KAHN”
Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 no cage available

Kahn is a 19 year old Blue and Gold Macaw. He loves to be the “class clown” and will make you laugh and giggle with delight. He will need extra love and attention the 1st couple of months to get him adapted to you and your household. He readily steps up to a confident person, but it appears that he likes females better than males. He loves to play in the bath tub and his favorite movie seems to be “Cars”. Kahn is also a foot biter and chaser, so if you plan to let him walk around your home on the floor, wear boots, lol!  He does also occassioanlly scream or screech for attention and will end that with a firm “stop it”, so this vocalizing is an issue we are working on. He eats a mix of zupreem food varieties with fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts and his favorite treat is apples, he will say “Apple Mmmm”. Kahn prefers a quiet household, he can be vocal if there is a lot of noise around him.

Corona is a Blue & Gold Macaw that seems to prefer men. He can be a bit skittish, and is looking for someone with macaw experience. He really enjoys attention and loves having his head scratched, but feels the need to make you earn that privilege. He is not a picky eater, and loves to talk to himself. Corona is anxious for his forever home. If you have time, patience, and an abundance of love, then Corona would love to meet you.

“ANGEL”
Greenwing Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 with cage

Angel is a female Greenwing Macaw and is friendly, especially after she gets a chance to get used to her new surroundings. Her previous owners had to give her up because of their health issues. She deserves the best, and will give you hers! She is always trying to feed me, her foster mom. She has the ability to talk and will after she gets to know you…but she will say “Hi” right away! She will also pick her foot up to wave when she say’s “Hi” or “Hello”. She also says “cracker”, “rugrat”, “spongebob”, not as clear, but a work in progress! Guess she likes NickToons, lol! She was plucking, but has been preening a lot and the feathers are growing back in already. She will make a great addition to your family as she likes men and women. Dogs are also okay, and big dogs at that! I think she would prefer to be the only bird so she can get all the attention! But she doesn’t show aggression to other birds…..She’s great and needs to find a family that knows how to treat her, like the Angel she is! She likes bird cookies and bird bread that foster mom makes her and is already eating her pellets, sometimes she likes to dip them in her water! She loves to take her own bathes in her water dish, but I still have to mist her. So give her a thought if you are looking for a forever companion!

Rainbow is an 18 year old Blue & Gold Macaw. She is a very sweet girl that has been a one owner bird her entire life and was much loved. She would be so happy to be a part of your life to share love with you! She is a very easy going bird and likes just about everyone, she steps up very well with confident people and does not seem to have a preference to men or women. She does have to be given frequent bathes to keep her feathers clean as she does not properly groom herself, this may be a habit she can learn over time with the proper grooming on her owners part. She is currrently on a diet of mixed pellets with fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts.  She is a very good eater!

Kona Blue and Gold Macaw Available for adoption Florida Parrot RescueKona Blue and Gold Macaw Available for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“KONA”
Blue & Gold Macaw
*SPECIAL NEEDS*
Adoption fee $400 or $650 With Cage

Kona is a 2 year old Macaw who is special needs, he has what is called splay leg. He looks like he is doing the splits and can not put his legs down. He can not stand, walk or perch, but don’t tell Kona he can’t do these things because he has never been able to do them, so he doesn’t miss them! But he can climb, he is really good a climber! He does fall sometimes, but that is getting to be rare and his cage just needs to be kept in a special way to accomodate that. He has never flown and we don’t believe he can, but we do keep his wings clipped just in case he were to surprise us and himself. We keep a large pillow on the bottom of his cage and he likes to sleep on his pillow at night. Kona loves toys. He will take a month or so before he will play with new toys, but then he loves them. His favorite type of toys are bells and he loves to make noise by ringing them! When you feed him you have to remember he can’t hold the food with his foot, so you will want to make sure fruit and veggies are cut in to small bite size pieces and you crack nuts for him. We bathe him in a couple inches of water in the bath tub, he doesn’t like it, but it has to be done a few times a week (as with all birds!). Kona is a sweet bird. He will need someone who has time to spend with him. He is friendly with you once he gets to know you (typical Macaw!). I like to take him from his cage and set him on my lap. He likes to lay against my chest and give kisses. He does say a few words…. “Mom”, “Hello”, “What”, “Truuuuuuuck” (our dogs name) and laughs. This a wonderful bird, won’t you it find in your heart to give him a forever home where his special needs will be celebrated and appreciated?

Rocky Blue & Gold Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot RescueRocky Blue & Gold Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“ROCKY”
Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 With Cage

Rocky is a 21 year old Blue and Gold Macaw. He is in perfect feather and is not a screamer. The only time he lets out a scream is when his people are not in the same room as he is and he is feeling lonely. Rocky had been owned by the same man since he was 3 months old. His owner has a medical condition and can no longer care for him.

Rocky can say “Hello Rocky” and “Hi Rocky” and will probably talk more when he becomes more comfortable. He is a little wary of new people at first and will lunge a couple of times right now before he steps up for the first time. He is not a biter however, and his lunges are just warnings to let you know he is scared. He just needs lots of love and positive reinforcement.

Rocky will take food from your hand very gently, and he has perfect macaw table manners when he eats with you. Rocky has never had a real shower in 21 years and we are working on that with him. He had a shower for about 10 seconds when he first got to his foster home, but he was less than thrilled so the acclimation to showering may take a little while.

Rocky is going to need a forever home with plenty of attention to give and some previous macaw experience, as he can be a little strong-willed. He is talking well with the other feathered friends in the house and he doesn’t really pay any attention to the cat or dogs. Are you the right person to give Rocky a forever home?

“BANDIT”
Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 With Cage

Bandit is a gentle and playful 30 year old macaw. Although 30 sounds old, you can expect this loving big bird to spend many great years as your loving companion. She is healthy and very full of life. She does not seem to have a preference of men or women, but she loves to hang out with other macaws and would prefer a home with a macaw friend. Some of her most favorite things are destroying boxes and eating. She has been converted to a healthy diet of pellets with fresh fruits and veggies and some nuts. She does not mind other animals like dogs and also loves to dance! Bandit particularly enjoys talking to the dogs and will even yell “Out” at them in order to get a sample of their food. Maggie Mae Greenwing Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot RescueMaggie Mae Greenwing Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“MAGGIE MAE” Greenwing Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

This bird has been adopted

For all you old timers like myself, do you remember the children’s book “Clifford The Big Red Dog”? Maggie Mae is the feathered version of Clifford. For those not familiar with the book, Clifford was a very large red dog that was sweet, gentle and lovable in spite of his size. That pretty much describes Maggie. She’s a DNA sexed female greenwing macaw who just celebrated her 12th hatch day. She is a cuddle bug with a typical macaw sense of humor. She loves to dance and says a few words such as “step up”, “Maggie” and “come here”. So far I’m not sure what her favorite pastime is, cuddling while watching TV or stealing pine nuts off the end table. She did start plucking a few months ago when her family divorced, but she is already regrowing many feathers. For anyone considering a large macaw, Maggie Mae is about a sweet and gentle as they come. Please consider giving this sweetheart a forever home.

Neon Blue and Gold Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“NEON” Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

Neon is a Blue and Gold Macaw who is about 13 years old, his hatch date was 5/28/98. He is a beautiful fully feathered bird who is in the process of learning his Macaw manners. He was never handled before so he is learning that hands are okay and will not hurt him. He is now taking treats by hand nicely. He is a really sweet bird who will let you stroke his beak through the bars of his cage. He is let out of his cage for several hours everyday, although he doesn’t particularly enjoy it too much at this point. He isn’t used to it and it makes him nervous, but he will get used to it soon and come to enjoy it. With time and patience Neon is going to be a wonderful bird you will be able to enjoy hands on. Neon is going to need a experienced large bird owner who has the time and patience to continue with his training.

He is waiting for that special person to adopt him and give this wonderful guy a new home where he will feel loved!

Abby Blue and Gold Macaw available for adoption Florida Parrot RescueAbby Blue and Gold macaw available for adoption Floirda Parrot Rescue

“ABBY” Blue and Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

Abby is a twelve year DNA sexed female Blue and Gold Macaw. She is a healthy, well mannered bird, but she did come in with a slight feather picking habit. However, in the short time she’s been in the rescue she has already been allowing new feathers to grow back and will likely be fully feathered soon. Abby is a little shy around new surroundings and new birds, but is very gentle and sweet with the right person, she prefers men strongly. She is an affectionate and cuddly macaw that will make her new family very happy. She’s a real treasure and deserves the very best in a forever home!

Tiki Moluccan Cockatoo available for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“TIKI” Moluccan Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

Tiki is a majestic and regal Moluccan Cockatoo who is approximately 7 years old. It is presumed that he is a male but he has not been DNA tested for gender. He sports a brilliant flamingo colored crest. Moluccans are the largest of the white cockatoo species.

Our young man is shy at first but will stand still indefinitely for head scratches and doesn’t appear to be cage aggressive. Tiki will hiss constantly at first but it is due to fear. The good news is that he overcomes it after getting to know you. As you can see he is a very affectionate little (big) guy. He loves to go outside and play. He enjoys being in the room with you and riding around on your should (caution – allowing a bird to ride on your shoulder is not always recommended and should only be considered after spending enough time with the bird and forming an evaluation). He likes to shred wood and piñatas. He likes to eat a little bit of everything, but he has to be in the mood.

Although Moluccans are known to have one of the loudest parrot calls Tiki has sounded off only a few times within a 4 week period and only for short periods of time. Moluccans in general are very intelligent and should be nurtured by providing plenty of mental stimuli and training; owning this type of bird requires a special person with a lot of time and attention to give. Moluccans are the most sensitive of the cockatoos. They also require the largest cages of all the parrots. Tiki’s cage is 64” wide. He needs a play stand when out of his cage.

His previous owner did say he is extremely affectionate and very handleable, but tends to bond to only one person. She noted that he is not aggressive towards the rest of the people in the home, but just does not care for them. We also know that at one time he was housed with several other M2′s that picked on him but he seems to be fine with his U2 foster brother. Tiki has plucked some of his feathers around the tips of his wings and his thighs. Plucking is very common for this species but Tiki still has a beautiful feather presentation (see picture) and there is no evidence that he still plucks.

Tiki can live to be about 70-80 years old and therefore has a life time of love to give to you!

“KAIRI” Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

Kairi is a young female Blue and Gold Macaw. She loves to talk, “hello, cracker, pretty bird and good girl” are some of the words she says. Kairi is very affectionate. At this time she prefers to shower her affections on my husband but can be handled by other experienced family members as well. Kairi steps up, takes treats by hand and for my husband will lay on her back on his lap. Kairi came to us with her chest feathers plucked but already has yellow feathers returning. Kairi enjoys a diet of a variety of fruits, veggies, and nuts with a foundation of pellets and rice with beans. Kairi’s trust continues to grow daily but she will require an adoptive family with bird experience to continue to bring out the best in her.

Bubbles Blue and Macaw for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“CUERVO aka BUBBLES” Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

Cuervo is a 10 year old Blue and Gold Macaw, but I like to call her Bubbles because guess what, she’s a girl! Bubbles is a very friendly bird and really easy to handle. As you can see, she doesn’t like to wear her sweater, but bald is beautiful baby! Most of Bubbles’ feathers will most likely not grow back as it appears she has done damage to the feather follicles, but we are working on making her diet a more nutritious one with pellets, a huge variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and plenty of nuts. Bubbles is a pig! She LOVES to eat and will munch on just about anything you put in front of her. She hasn’t talked yet and so far is not a very loud bird, but I suspect she has the ability to talk, she just hasn’t yet.

She is a wonderful bird and will make a great lifelong companion!

Belle Scarlet Macaw for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“BELLE O’HARA” Scarlet Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 With Cage

Belle O’Hara is a 15 year-old female Scarlet Macaw. She is very curious about everything going on around her. Before coming into rescue she had been biting off some of her long wing feathers, so when she came to her foster home she was given plenty of fun toys to play with and the right types of food to eat and she is now starting to let her feathers grow back. Belle has now been fully transitioned to a diet of pellets, fresh fruit and vegetables, and occasional nuts for treats. She is very easy to please and she will try any new food you give her., she loves to eat! She enjoys baths outside on sunny days as well and she will dance around spreading her wings as you spray her. She is not a loud parrot and she can talk some. Belle would do best with an experienced Macaw owner with patience who is willing to spend a lot of time with her and treat her like the queen she was born to be!

Pinky Moluccan Cockatoo for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“PINKY” Moluccan Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

 This bird has been adopted

Hello, my name is Pinky I am a 15 year old Moluccan Cockatoo-I have light pink feathers (hence the name) and liquid brown eyes. I have lots to to talk about!!! I love to be out of my cage everyday for dinner with the family and playtime. I love to yell HELLO when the phone rings and I also love to listen to, sing (and whistle) over-top and dance along with music– I think I am a wonderful dancer! My foster family thinks I am wonderful too, even though sometimes I say bad things I shouldn’t (not appropriate for being around young children),  I am beautiful, VERY comical, smart, sensitive AND I’m a good helper –if you laugh -I laugh, if you yell- I yell and if you cry, I’ll cry too– the other animals in the house don’t bother me much. I LOVE to eat mixed pellets and nuts, pasta with the family, fresh fruit and veggies.  Oh yeah and pizza crust please, sometimes a chicken bone ( don’t tell my friends). I LOVE being the center of attention and will let you know that. I need lots of chew toys and some play toys too and lots of time out of my cage but most of all I need your love, attention and lots of TIME to spend with me! I’m looking for my forever home, won’t you love me for the rest of your life?
Kiki Blue and Gold Macaw for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“KIKI” Blue & Gold Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

Hello all – Kiki here! I am a very nice, handsome fellow – I know many ways to say hello and my name, have several different laughs and am learning some Spanish (hola) and French (bonjour). I love to talk to you and I love to eat – what macaw doesn’t? When I first got here, I was eating a seed diet – now I have pellets, fruit, veggies, nuts and sometimes a bit of yogurt or scrambled egg. As you can see, I don’t have all my feathers. Some of them have started to grow back in – the ones on my chest are just lovely. I’m about 25 years old and still have many good years ahead of me. Head scratching is one of my favorite things! I get a little anxious out of my cage but I do like to explore, so once I can wander around a bit, I’m good to go! I’m not a screamer and do love to interact with you once I’ve made your acquaintance. I’ve been working on step up and am good at taking food from your hand. I’ve a lovely wooden toy that I’ve been redesigning (it needed some work) and a couple of new perches. If you think I could be your forever bird, I would really love a LARGE cage with toys and perches, time with you and also some time outside in the sun. I’ve been thinking I should try a harness, then I could go for walks and bike rides and all sorts of other fun adventures, but I’ll think abut that some more while you decide if we could be forever friends!

“RUDY” Greenwing Macaw
Adoption Fee $400 or $650 With Cage

This bird has been adopted

Introducing Rudy – a beautiful 5 ½ year old greenwing macaw.  He visited the vet recently for a checkup and got the go ahead to look for a new home.  He’s a big boy – greenwings are often called gentle giants and he surely is that but he also has that macaw feisty personality.  Rudy barks like a dog and meows like a cat and makes many other sounds – snoring in particular – I heard that for the first time yesterday. He has some vocabulary and will pick up more as time goes on.  He’s smart and  very inquisitive.  Rudy loves to fly and had his wings clipped for the first time recently – an indignity he let everyone in the exam room know about!  He’ll need a large cage and lots of large wooden toys and foraging toys.  He’s very social so will also need time out his crate to hang with you.  He’s a typical macaw – lots of energy and noise early in the morning and early evening but the rest of the time, he’s pretty laid back.  Loves his food and has been well taken care of by his previous owners.  He’s a great bird!

Zoey Moluccan Cockatoo for available for adoption Florida Parrot Rescue

“ZOEY” Moluccan Cockatoo
Adoption Fee $400 Or $650 With Cage

Zoey is a gorgeous M2! She is scared to death of men, so she needs to go to a home with females. As is the case for most M2′s, she is very, very loud and that is the reason she was relinquished to FPR. Zoey is around 6 years old and very friendly (to females!). She can live upwards of 80 years and to agree to adopt her is a long, life time commitment. She has been moved around a lot, and really needs a forever home this time, so please do your research on this species…she is not a beginner bird, and needs a experienced handler. If you are looking for a M2 and you have the experience, she may be the girl for you! She is in perfect feather and is a good eater, so far she has enjoyed all the fresh food that has been offered. She also eats a three pellet mix, so she is on an excellent diet and very healthy!
